Charges Coming Against and Company
VSP Ready To Act In DEQ Employee's Death

State police are ready to file charges in the death of a Virginia Department of Environmental Quality employee who was crushed when a trash truck fell onto his car as he was on his way to work Dec. 3.

Virginia State Police Sgt. Gary Settle says the police and Page County Commonwealth's Attorney John Hennessy met with relatives of crash victim Dwight Sours before making the final decision to proceed with the case. Sours, 56, was a resident of Stanley.

According to Settle, state police plan to charge both the truck's driver, Clayton Sharpe, 40, of Baltimore, Md., and the owner of the tractor-trailer he was driving, East Coast Resources LLC. Police are holding off on identifying the specific charges until a magistrate signs off on the paperwork. It likely would have happened sooner, but bad weather and icy roads have kept state troopers otherwise occupied this week, Settle explained.

A police inspection of the crashed truck conducted last month showed the tractor-trailer had faulty brakes.
