Campaign Virginia was incorporated in September 1994 and is one of the state's newest grassroots environmental and consumer lobbies. As a nonprofit, nonpartisan voice for Virginians, we are devoted exclusively to state and local issues that affect the interests of the citizens of the Commonwealth. From the Blue Ridge to the Chesapeake Bay and from our urban centers to our wilderness areas, Campaign Virginia dedicates its efforts to ensuring the people of the Commonwealth enjoy a quality of life synonymous with the name Virginia.
Campaign Virginia has led the fight against trash imports to Virginia working with a coalition of
landfill activists and other environmental groups such as Sierra Club-VA Chapter. Our work includes: formulating strategy, generating media, lobbying, local organizing and applying grass-roots pressure to elected and nonelected public officials.
To conduct issue campaigns, Campaign Virginia employs a full-time, paid, canvassing staff. Staff works year round visiting communities throughout Virginia to collect petition signatures and contributions and to encourage people to contact their legislators.
Campaign Virginia is almost entirely citizen-funded. We rely on support from individuals to enable our lobby work, research, public education, community organizing and statewide canvassing program. As Campaign Virginia performs grassroots lobbying, contributions are not tax deductible. A financial statement is available here or from the State Office of Consumer Affairs.
